Chicago Bride's Preferred Sources

When planning for your wedding, the gown is probably the centerpiece of all the decisions you’ll make; the rest of the wedding is built around your gown (the colors, the styles, etc.). It’s best to order your gown six months ahead of time with potential delays in shipping and alterations. When going shopping for your dress, fix your hair the way you’ll want it on the wedding day and bring a pair of dress shoes. Without putting forth too much effort, try to approximate your final appearance so that you can really see how well the dress works.

Keep an open mind when shopping for your dress. The average dress costs $800 but there are so many styles and prices that with a little patience you can find the one that’s perfect for you. At the bridal shop, remember some important questions:

Will they deliver the gown to the ceremony site? Do they stuff the sleeves? Do they use a bodice form? Will the train be tied up or draped over a hanger? The gown sets the level of formality for both the ceremony and the reception, reflecting your own personal image as well. Choose wisely, but remember to have fun!
